mushroom first timer (not finished)
Growing mushrooms as a first timer I'm just gonna outright be honest I have 0 idea on what I'm doing here lol but thats okay because I have good ol google to help me out right and maybe some books.
I started on google and I looked up ways to grow mushrooms without spores and I did find a few different ways to do so. One way that I found and seems super simple is just burying the entire shroom under the soil and it's supposed to grow more. Like I said never done this before EVER. So I got ahold of some Red Chantrelle's that my boyfriend had found for me so I decided since I'm wanting to self sustain and I'm already growing food and herbs lets try some shroomies as well. So I took the chantrelle's and i buried them in some soil and mushroom compost wish is supposed to be wonderful for your plants and veggies. After I buried the mushrooms in the mixture I got it nice and wet in the container and sealed the top with cyran wrap. I then stuck the container with the mushrooms in my closet in a warm spot underneath a lamp.
I am keeping track on the calander and today marks day 6 and i haven't seen any growth just yet. However i have switched up the lighting and started turning it off at bedtime so it gets light and dark as it would outside. I started growing cherries as well but those are gonna take a while. All of my veggies and herbs I am growing are all inside for the most part, the weather in Arkansas has been so terribly hot in the summers that it has been frying everything.
mycology, the study of fungi, a group that includes the mushrooms and yeasts. Many fungi are useful in medicine and industry.
Did you know that the best spots to find mushrooms are gonna be in the woods, nature trails, medows and fields and also wooded areas. Some mushrooms only grow in specific types of enviornments. Some only grow in grassy habitats away from moss and woody areas. I say it is best to wear gloves when foraging for mushrooms because some are poisonous and being able to tell apart edible from non edible is very important. Always cook them thoroughly never eat them raw even if they are edible. Cooking makes them more digestible to humans and also unlocks their nutritional value.
"The one cardinal rule in mushroom hunting is: If in doubt, throw it out.
you're best best is to do lots and lots of research like I am to make sure you do it properly and safely. Recommend getting a informational book for your region since the species of mushrooms does vary from place to place.
